Man’s ear cut off in brutal Hartbeespoort farm attack

The victim was asleep when two suspects surprised him before cutting his ear off and making off with cash and his hunting rifle.

A 66-year-old man was brutally attacked on a farm in Hartbeespoort on Monday.

Hartbeespoort dam police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Pelonomi Makau said a case of house robbery was opened.

“The victim was attacked by two unknown suspects on his farm in Rietfontein in the area of Hartbeespoort dam, on Monday morning, at 02:00.

“It is alleged that the victim was asleep when the suspects woke him up and demanded money. They allegedly cut off a part of his right ear with a sharp object before taking his hunting rifle from his safe,” she said.

Makau said a fridge, cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash were also taken.

“The victim was admitted in hospital in a serious condition. The suspects are still at large and no arrest were made. Investigations are ongoing.”
