More than 300 people were arrested in the west policing district this past week following several police operations.
“Police operations are still ongoing and several operations were conducted from midnight on Wednesday to Sunday mid-day,” said police spokesperson Captain Augistinah Selepe.
This resulted in the arrest of 315 people for various crimes, she said.
She said during this time, the Tshwane district detective traced wanted suspects.
“Suspects were wanted in connection with cases of attempted murder, rape, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of unlicensed firearms, business burglary, house burglary and cases relating to gender based violence,” she said.
Selepe said a suspect was arrested for being in the possession of cocaine in Mabopane.

She said he was also found with a stamp belonging to Tshwane licence department.
“Fraudulent registration papers were found and a tampered with Volkswagen Golf,” she said.
She said the Tshwane District Drug and Trio Task Team conducted a joint operation in Olievenhoutbosch.
“During the operation, two addresses where visited and three suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property,” she said.
“Telkom tower batteries were recovered, one vehicle was seized that was used during the commission of a crime. Eight illegal immigrants were also arrested. “
On Saturday morning, a 28-year-old suspect was arrested for being in the possession of a stolen vehicle, she said.

“The vehicle was impounded for further investigation.”
Selepe said more than 13 shebeens or illegal liquor outlets were shut down for non-compliance in terms of the Gauteng Liquor Act and volumes of liquor were confiscated together with counterfeit cigarettes and CDs.
“In addition, various businesses were visited during inspection,” she said.
“Expired food were discovered and seized. Second hand goods shops were visited and fines were issued for contravention of the Second Hand Goods Act.”
She said AARTO fines were issued at roadblocks, while more than 1050 vehicles and 1308 people were searched.
Tshwane Acting District Commissioner, Major General Hilda Mohajane expressed her appreciation for the ongoing crime prevention and combating operations throughout the district.

“She indicated that the integrated approach, which enables the participation of various law enforcement agencies, will continue towards success and the realisation of the police’s vision of ensuring that all people in South Africa are and feel safe,” Selepe said.
“She further added that high police visibility deployment and integrated crime prevention operations in identified areas and shopping malls will be ongoing and intensified.”
