Job seekers and residents of Tshwane were warned against a scam about traineeship opportunities within the metro police department.
This after the alleged scam inviting job seekers to apply for 2000 traineeship opportunities did the rounds on social media platforms.
“The invitation notice is devoid of any truth as the city only advertises vacant posts in newspapers and on the job forum page of its website – www.tshwane.gov.za,” metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said.
He said the electronically circulated message invited those who were interested to obtain application forms from their nearest regional metro police offices and submit them before 25 January 2020.
“The message further states that the individuals must be residents of Tshwane, have a matric certificate, be between the ages of 18 and 35 and have a driver’s license,” Mahamba added.
He reiterated members of the public should ignore the message adding “it is a scam”.

“The city continues to be dismayed at the scammers who prey on the emotions of unsuspecting job seekers by manufacturing information about the existence of job vacancies.”
Mahamba added that they suspected the aim of the scammers was to con vulnerable people who were desperate for employment.
“We wish to warn those who are peddling such false information that they will be arrested, charged and prosecuted as their actions border on criminality,” he warned.
Members of the public were advised to contact the metro police department on 082-891 8625 or the metro’s anti-fraud hotline number 080-874 9263 when they come across “job adverts” which were issued outside the norms and procedures of their processes.
