Moot Grade 1s gear up for first day
Rekord caught up with a number of youngsters to find out how they felt about their first day and what they wanted to be when they grew up.

Nervous and enthusiastic Grade 1 and RR learners, along with their parents, gathered at Laerskool Derdepoort in the Moot on Tuesday, in preparation for their first day of school.
Rekord caught up with a number of youngsters to find out how they felt about their first day and what they wanted to be when they grew up.
Some were excited, while others were shy and nervous for their first day on Wednesday.
Most learners had only two career choices in mind.
The main objective of starting a day before school officially kicked off, was to get learners settled in before their first day.
Catherine Edwards (Grade R):
Catherine Edwards said she was excited and ready for her first day in Grade R.
“I am happy to be at school,” she said.
When she grows up, Catherine said she wanted to be a police officer “because I want to help people”.

Abigail Massingue (Grade R):
Abigail Massingue entered Laerskool Derdepoort nervously for her first day in school.
She did not speak much, but told Rekord that she also wanted to become a policewoman when she grows up.

Liza Kruger (Grade 1):
Liza Kruger was excited and ready to kick off her first day in Grade 1.
She said she wanted to become a doctor when she grows up, adding that she has always wanted to do this since she could remember.

Leago Ngobeni (Grade 1):
Leago Ngobeni said he was ready for Grade 1.
“I am very excited to start tomorrow (Wednesday),” he said.
When Ngobeni grows up, he said he wanted to be a policeman.
“I want to arrest all the bad people to take them off the streets,” he said.

Mbalienhle Malete (Grade 1):
Mbalienhle Malete was still very shy on her first day at Laerskool Derdepoort, but added that she wanted to be a doctor when she grows up.

Cattlaya Adams (Grade 1):
Cattlaya Adams said she was excited for her first day of Grade 1.
When Adams grows up, she said she wanted to become a doctor.
“I want to help and save people one day,” she said.

Oratile Sibande (Grade 1):
Oratile Sibande said she was ready for Grade 1 and excited for the first day.
She said she wanted to become a policewoman when she grows up.
“I want to help people, make a difference and catch the bad guys,” she said.
