‘Robber’ injured in West shootout
A 30-year old suspected robber was injured during a shootout with police in Attridgeville on Friday.
A 30-year old suspected robber was injured during a shootout with police in Attridgeville on Friday.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said police were on patrol along WF Nkomo Street when they picked up a signal for backup in support of a Chopper and the Flying Sqaud.
She said the Flying squad was in pursuit of two vehicles stolen during a house robbery in Rustenburg earlier in the day.
“The members spotted at the corner of Schuveberg and WF Nkomo Streets, a vehicle matching the description of one of the stolen vehicles,” she said.

“It is alleged that on attempting to stop the vehicle, the suspect pointed a firearm at the members.”
Peters said the police fired at the man, injuring him.
She said the man was in a stable condition in hospital under police guard.
“He has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, while the possibility of more charges being added cannot be ruled out.”
The car was seized as well as the firearm and ammunition for further investigation.
The suspect will appear in court soon.
