Acid attack: east woman faces attempted murder charge
The Mamelodi woman accused of throwing acid liquid in her boyfriend's face has now been charged with attempted murder.
A Mamelodi woman is facing charges of attempted murder after she allegedly threw liquid acid at her partner last June.
The 42-year-old woman briefly appeared in the Mamelodi magistrate’s court on 24 January, on a charge of assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm, which has since been changed to attempted murder.
Terrence Noah Mabena was the victim of an acid attack after he and his partner had an argument around June last year.
Terrence (31) from Mamelodi East, had acid burn wounds on his face and upper body. He was admitted to the Mamelodi hospital and later transferred to Steve Biko Academic Hospital for further treatment. He underwent plastic surgery in February.

Terrence’s mother, Grace Dudu Mabena said she was “very happy that the justice system was finally doing something with the case since it has been changed to attempted murder”.
Grace said she was not sure if her son’s face would ever completely heal even after further planned surgery later this year.
Terrence said although he could not remember much of the attack, he recalled that the acid was kept in a container.
