A security guard was shot and injured during a cross pavement robbery in Centurion on Saturday morning.
The robbery happened on the corner of Broadway Street and Shirley Road in Valhalla around 08:30, said police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili.
“It is alleged that two security guards were loading money into the vehicle, while the driver was waiting,” she said.
“Two unknown suspects approached the driver, shot and injured him on his left leg.”
She said the robbers took an undisclosed amount of money, which was in a bag and fled the scene in a white Toyota Corolla.

“The vehicle’s registration number was XL 835 GP,” she said.

Muridili said the injured security guard was taken to hospital.
CEO at Fidelity Services Group, Wahl Bartmann, said the officer was stable and doing well.
He said they were working closely with the police to follow any leads.
Bartmann said he was concerned about the unacceptable spike in cash-in-transit incidents this year, particularly in Gauteng.
“There has been almost one CIT incident every day since the beginning of 2020,” he said.
“We have been forced to deploy extra backup and support on the road and in the air with our helicopter.”

He said the rate of attacks on security officers was also concerning.
“Although our vehicle design has helped in defending and in minimising cash losses, there are often casualties during these attacks and that is not acceptable,” he said.
“We have our own internal investigation teams working to see if we can uncover any leads and syndicates and we are also working closely with the police and are in discussions with the Minister.”
The police appealed to anyone with more information to contact them immediately.
“They should phone our crime stop number at 086-001-0111 or send tip-offs on the MySAPS application,” she said.
“All information received will be treated with confidentiality.”
