Mnandi security guard critical after shooting on business site

The guard, who was patrolling a business site at the R511/R114, was critically injured after suspects attempted to rob a vehicle on the premises.

A contractor from Mnandi in Centurion was rushed to hospital after being shot early on Wednesday.

The contractor was patrolling business premises near the R511/R114 when he was shot allegedly by people who saw him as an impediment to their hijacking effort.

Spokesperson of Monitor Net, JP le Roux said his security firm was called to the scene at 02:00.

“The suspects attempted to rob a vehicle on the site but failed then tried to rob security officers across the street,” said Le Roux.

Le Roux said that crime in the area was rising.

“I appeal to the community to be vigilant at all times. We have received quite a few reports of house- and business robberies. Check your alarm system regularly and any other security equipment to ensure they were operational at all times.”

Le Roux confirmed that the suspects fled the scenes empty-handed.

At the time of going to print Sergeant Pretty Mokadi of Olievenhoutbosch SAPS had no additional information regarding the incident.
