The man believed to be behind the violent road rage incident captured on video in the Sinoville area last week, has been granted bail.
He appeared in court on Tuesday after he was arrested on Sunday, police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said.
A video showing the alleged incident went viral on Facebook a week ago.
Although the circumstance leading up to the incident were unclear, the man, believed to be a taxi driver, could be seen shattering a woman’s vehicle’s windscreen with an object.
As the video continues, the woman attempts to stop the man but he proceeds to use an object to break the vehicle’s headlights.
Van Dyk said the man would face charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and malicious damage to property.
The victim, Amelia Nel said she and her children were still traumatised by what happened.
“I’m angry and scared,” she said.
Nel said she got frightened when the man walked out of his vehicle with a wheel spanner as he had allegedly bumped into her. He could have easily hit her, she said.
“We’ll have to see what’s going to happen…whether he’ll get away with it or not,” she said.
