An elderly man’s ear was cut off with a sharp object in a business break-in in the Moot on Sunday.
According to Kilnerpak Security spokesperson Ancelize van der Kooi, the incident happened around 10:19 in Stormvoël Road, close to Jan Coetzee Street.
“Suspects were seen at the business, which is why we were called out to assist,” she said.

“An elderly man also heard the commotion and went to see what was happening.”
She said upon investigation, the elderly man walked right into two suspects.
“They attacked him and cut off his ear with a panga,” Van der Kooi said.

“Thank you to Life Med ambulance services for their quick reaction to the scene.”
Van der Kooi urged residents to remain safe when they notice or suspect a crime taking place.
“Rather stay in your home and do not confront such criminals,” she said.

“They are dangerous and you are putting your life in danger.”
Overall, Van der Kooi said the crime was not increasing at this stage.
“I know it’s still very early in the lockdown period, but at the moment it’s very quiet in the area,” she said.

“However, we urge residents to remain vigilant at all times.”
Police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits said no case has been opened with the police as yet.
