During the Easter weekend, the Mamelodi West police arrested five suspects for different crimes.
Police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso said police will continue to fight crime in Mamelodi despite the lockdown.
He said the police arrested three people for shoplifting, one for assault and the other for theft.
“The police in Mamelodi and other areas will continue doing their jobs, despite challenges thrown their way by the coronavirus,” said Maheso.
He said it is still business as usual and “we will continue serving the community and fighting crime”.
Maheso said since the lockdown, crime has slightly decreased but “that does not end here we will continue with our day-to-day policing”.
“We are welcoming tip-offs as usual to fight crime and the public is also advised to continue working with the police,” said Maheso.
He also called on locals to use the suggestion boxes at the stations to “help fight crime and improve police service to the public”.
He said they can use the suggestion box for complaints and help the police fight crime.

Maheso also said the box can be used to report anything from wanted suspects, crime hotspots, missing persons and corrupt police officials.
“The suggestion box will help the police with their duties by providing information on criminal activities occurring within the community.”
He said those who wished to remain anonymous, must feel free to contact the police but leave their details out.
The arrested suspects will appear in the court on different dates soon.
He invited the public to report any suspicious person to the police on 08600-10111.
