WARNING: Beware of hijackers on the N4
This comes after three incidents of hijacking were reported on Saturday evening after motorists stopped when they encountered large rocks on the road.
Paramedics have warned motorists to beware of hijackers who put rocks and spikes on the N4 highway between Simon Vermooten and Solomon Mahlangu streets, east of Pretoria.
This comes after three incidents of hijacking were reported on Saturday evening after motorists stopped when they encountered large rocks on the road.
“One man was stabbed with a screwdriver in his hand while trying to flee from robbers after he stopped when he saw the objects in the middle of the road,” said VERMU spokesperson Tammy Visser.
“He was transported to a nearby hospital by another ambulance.
“Be safe and vigilant.”
In March Rekord reported that spikes damaged vehicles on the N4 off-ramp at Solomon Mahlangu Drive and on the R573.
One of the reports was from a driver who stopped after three of his tyres burst.
He was held at gunpoint and assaulted by a gang who stripped him of his shoes, cellphones as well as taxi fares of the day.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo advised motorists not to stop but go to the nearest police station or call Crime Stop on 08600-10111 to report the matter.
“The patrols will be intensified on that highway,” he said.
