A step-by-step guide to a DIY pedicure

Spoil yourself, and your loved ones, with a home pedicure. Here’s a step-by-step guide on what to do.

Taking care of your emotional and physical health is key, especially when you are stuck at home. Spoil yourself and your loved ones with a home DIY pedicure. It’s easier than you think and you will most definitely score some brownie points.
Here’s a step-by-step guide courtesy of the beauty experts at The Laser Beautique:

You will need:

  1. Bucket to soak feet in (or you can do it in the bath)
    2. Cuticle nipper
    3. Wooden cuticle pusher
    4. Cuticle oil
    5. Gentle soap
    6. Dettol or Savlon (1tsp)
    7. Warm water
    8. Towels
    9. Exfoliating scrub
    10. Foot cream
    11. Polish of your choice, a base coat and top coat (if you need some colour in your life)

What to do:

  • Remove all nail polish or gel before getting started. Make sure you’re in a well-ventilated area when removing gel with acetone. Place a towel on the floor to catch any filings.
  • Using the rough side of the foot file go over any rough areas, vigorously. Your arms will get tired so take a break – see it as a good arm workout. Once done with the rough side of the file, make sure you go over with the smooth side as not to leave rough edges.
  • File nails straight and not round as to not cause any ingrown nails.
  • Apply cuticle softener around the cuticle area.
  • Soak your feet in a bucket/bath with warm soapy water. Remove feet separately, and dry.
  • Gently push cuticles back.
  • Apply a teaspoon of scrub to moist hands and vigorously yet gently scrub feet before rinsing off.
  • Using foot cream, you can massage feet using pressure points to help relieve any stress and moisturise any dry areas.
  • Make sure to cleanse the nail plate with acetone (or nail polish remover) to remove any foot cream from the nail plate before applying polish. Start with a base coat, two layers of polish, and finally apply a top coat. Wait at least 20 minutes before applying cuticle oil.
