Robbers get away in east CIT heist

The suspect and his accomplice fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money in a white sedan.

A group of robbers got away after a cash-in-transit heist at a filling station in Die Wilgers on Monday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili said the robbery took place at the corner of Simon Vermooten and Rossouw streets.

“A cash vehicle was picking up money at the filling station. As the security guard was walking towards the vehicle, it is alleged that an unknown suspect ran out of the shop and hit the guard on his head with a firearm,” she said.

“The suspect and his accomplice fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.”

Muridili said the security guard sustained minor injuries.

The group fled the scene in a white sedan.

“We are appealing to anyone with information to call Crime Stop at 08600-10111 or send tip-offs on the MySAPS App.”

She said all information would be treated with confidentiality.
