North learners die during lockdown, girl electrocuted, boy succumbs to diabetes

Two schools in Hammanskraal mourns the death of two of their learners who died recently.
An 8-year-old girl, a learner from Selang Primary School was electrocuted and a 12-year-old-boy, a learner from Lethabo Phalane Primary School died from diabetes.
Gauteng Education Department spokesperson, Steve Mabona, said it is alleged that the 8-year-old girl was electrocuted after touching an electric cable which was wrongly earthed at her home on 29 April.
“The learner, unfortunately, died on arrival at a local hospital.”
He said the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the electrocuted girl.
He said the 12-year-old boy suffered from diabetes. He allegedly experienced complications on Tuesday, 21 April at his home.
“He was rushed to a local hospital and succumbed to his chronic ailment on Thursday, 23 April.”
MEC of Gauteng Education Panyaza Lesufi is disheartened about the deaths of the two learners.
“We would like to convey our sincere condolences to both families and the school community. We pray for strength during this time of affliction.” MEC Lesufi said.
Mabona said both schools will facilitate memorial services to celebrate their lives after the lockdown period.
