A 50-year-old man is in a critical condition after he was shot during a robbery in Garsfontein on Saturday morning.

Police spokesperson Captain Kay Mkhabela said three unknown men entered the house in Rooigras Street around 02:00.

Makhubela said the robbers shot and injured the man who had been sleeping in his home.

“No arrests have been made,” he said.

VERMU paramedics spokesperson Casper Visser said paramedics found the man shot in the chest.

“We found the patient in a critical condition and started to stabilise him,” he said.

“After being joined by an advanced life support crew from Netcare911 the decision was made to fly the patient via medical helicopter to a specialist hospital in Johannesburg.”

It is not clear what the robbers got away with.

Police are investigating a case of house robbery and attempted murder.

Makhubela urged anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the robbers to call the nearest police station or Crime Stop 0n 08600-10111 or to give a tip-off on the MySAPS app that can be downloaded.
