Centurion food parcel project to feed hundreds
The Hunger Relief project can provide 75 000 meals to the hungry.
A community project in Centurion is attempting to relieve some of the socio-economic problems that hit the area due to Covid-19.
Hunger Relief was created by a fraternity of churches in Centurion, according to their spokesperson Zonica Myburgh.
“Our community and its people are in desperate need of food,” said Myburgh.
“The churches, also known as Love Pretoria South, decided to collaborate in a food project that would bring relief.”
“We approached our church members and members of the community to make contributions toward food parcels. These would be distributed to areas such as Olievenhoutbosch, Diepsloot, Mooiplaats, a shelter in Lyttelton and Itireleng.”
A box of food parcels can provide up to 300 meals to feed children or 180 meals for adults, Myburgh said.
“Each meal has been formulated to include the recommended daily allowance of essential vitamins and minerals.”
“The main aim of this initiative was to gather enough funds to make provision for 60 000 meals.”
Myburgh said, since the project’s inception, it had been blessed in abundance with a total of R150 000, making it possible to provide 75 000 meals to a hungry community.
“Yes, it is no secret that Covid-19 is bringing about hunger, but it is also no secret that collectively one can make a lasting impact.”
“We would like to thank the community for every contribution made thus far.”
