#Covid-19: 21 343 confirmed cases in SA, death toll climbs to 407

The number of confirmed cases increased by 1 218 since Friday and 10 more people have died.

South Africa now has a total of 21 343 confirmed Covid-19 cases, the Department of Health announced on Saturday, 23 May 2020.

This is an increase of 1 218 new infections from Friday.

To date, a total of 564 370 Covid-19 tests have been conducted.

Ten more deaths have also been recorded, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the country to 407.

According to data released by the Department of Health, a total of 10 104 recoveries have been recorded to date.

The Western Cape, which remains the epicentre of the outbreak in South Africa, has a total of 13 826 positive cases. Gauteng recorded 2 633 positive cases at the time of going to press.

The following confirmed Covid-19 cases have been detected in each province, according to the data released on Saturday:

• Western Cape: 13 826 cases
• Gauteng: 2 633 cases
• KwaZulu-Natal: 1 777 cases
• Eastern Cape: 2 569 cases
• Limpopo: 124 cases
• Mpumalanga: 97 cases
• North West: 81 cases
• Northern Cape: 40 cases
• Free State: 196 cases

Globally the Covid-19 cases surpassed 5.3 million infections on Saturday, with just over 340 000 Covid-19-related deaths reported. To date 2,184,004 world-wide recoveries have been recorded.
