Garsfontein police are worried about the increasing number of incidents in which criminals are targeting properties that borders Moreleta spruit.
This past weekend a group of unknown people was spotted inside a security complex in Coley Street, Garsfontein.
“When they were spotted by some of the residents, they ran back into the spruit area,” said Garsfontein police spokesperson Warrant Officer Duane Lightfoot.
The group was chased on foot by members of the local CPF, private security services and the police.
“The suspects unfortunately managed to escape, but luckily nothing was stolen.”
Lightfoot urged members of the public who live in complexes next to the spruit to be extra vigilant when it comes to securing their property.
“Please see to it that fencing are of good standard and are regularly checked for damage and is repaired as soon as possible if any damage is discovered.”
He said police were doing everything in their ability to ensure the safety of the community, but could not be everywhere all of the time.
Residents are advised to report any suspicious-looking people to the police by phoning 10111 or the Garsfontein police station directly at 012-472-0144.
