Three arrested in east for car theft
The three had managed to replace the vehicle's onboard computer with their own device.
A high-speed chase between Tshwane metro police officers and three suspected car thieves led to successful arrests in Silverton, Pretoria, on Thursday.
The Tshwane metro police’s K9 unit arrested the three after officers responded to an alert about a VW GTi Golf with no number plates.

“They spotted the vehicle heading into the direction of Silverton and gave chase,” said metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.
Mahamba said the men tried to flee, but ended up crashing the car at the corner of Creswell and Koedoespoort streets.
“A variety of vehicle theft equipment were found in the suspects’ vehicle.”
Mahamba said the equipment found in the vehicles indicated that the suspects were “professional car thieves”.
“They replaced the original computer box of a vehicle with their own computer and then started the vehicle with a smart key.”
The three were arrested for possession of car theft equipment and reckless driving.
Mahamba said in a separate incident that three other people were arrested on the same day in a joint operation by the TMPD drug unit for contravening lockdown regulations in Mabopane.
