Learner of top private school in east test positive for Covid-19

"All procedures regarding deep-cleaning and the sanitising of classrooms are currently being undertaken at the college."

A grade 7 learner from Woodhill College has tested positive for Covid-19.

“All procedures regarding deep-cleaning and the sanitising of classrooms are currently being undertaken at the college,” said Curro Holdings spokesperson Mari Lategan.

She said the safety of its learners and staff remained Curro’s ‘utmost priority’, and that the school is currently proceeding in compliance with disaster management act requirements and national institute of communicable diseases (NICD) guidelines.

“Urgent consultation has commenced with the Department of Health and the school awaits the department’s further advice on measures to be adopted.”

“Consequently, some learners and staff members of the school will be going into quarantine, with immediate effect in terms of legislation and Curro’s standard operating procedures. Parents and guardians will be kept up to date with developments via regular communication platforms,” she said.

“Curro would like to express its gratitude towards all stakeholders for their commitment and effort over the past few challenging weeks,” she concluded.

A Woodhill College parent, who also resides in the estate and wished to remain anonymous, said that she was quietly happy to send her little girl to school.

“I walk my girl to school every day and now we have been informed of the learner who tested positive. The school has put in extra safety measures in place to make sure that staff members and learners follow Covid-19 guidelines.”

This Tuesday, Woodhill Country Club (WCC) management said that they have been informed of the learner who tested positive, but said residents can be assured that the learner does not reside in the estate.

“Please be assured that random screening of learners and other people using the interlinked entrance between Woodhill Estate and College is being done,” WCC management said.
