Local teens provides warmth for homeless flood victims

The organisation, which was formed earlier this year, called Teens with Vision, made the generous donations to flood victims residing at Mamelodi West Baptist church last week.

A local organisation for teenagers provided warmth for homeless flood victims in Mamelodi.

The organisation, which was formed earlier this year, called Teens with Vision, made the generous donations to flood victims residing at Mamelodi West Baptist church last week.

Neo Cholo of Teens with Vision said the clothes were donated under one of their programmes called the winter drive campaign.

“The winter drive idea was proposed when we saw coronavirus affecting the economy of the country and that majority of families will not be able to purchase winter clothes for families because of job losses or low income,” said Cholo.

“Our team collected donations and we also contributed our own clothes as a team to help communities. We as young people have to think of our nation since we are leaders in different institutions,” he said.

Cholo said their team donated four boxes filled with winter clothes.

Pastor Thembelani Jentile of Mamelodi Baptist church thanked the team for their generosity and hard work.

He said the clothes came at the right time.

Cholo further said: “Our winter drive is not just aimed for unprivileged communities but any individual who is in need of clothes can contact us on our media platforms and we will help.

“Our journey just started at the Mamelodi Baptist church. We are still going to give back during this pandemic and are willing to put our lives at risk for the sake of our community.”

He added that poverty is also a pandemic and “we should not be waiting for situations to tackle it”.

Teens with vision is a non-profit organisation formed with the aim of bringing change in the community by helping disadvantaged families, orphans and individuals by providing them with food packages, school goods, sanitary pads, clothes and offering help to teenagers with social issues.

Cholo said the organisation was excited when the church donated sanitary pads to Teens with Vision for their next project called the sanitary pads drive.
