Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 11 164

Number of confirmed cases increases by 1 267 since Saturday.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 11 164 with 3 348 recoveries and 81 deaths on Sunday, according to a statement published by the Department of Health on Monday.

The department said out of 19 359  contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person tested positive for Covid-19), 13 170 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The department said 565 people were currently hospitalised in the public and private facility.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

– Johannesburg: 5 545  cases and 1 781 recoveries
– Ekurhuleni: 2 234  cases and 809 recoveries
– Tshwane: 1 543 cases and 405 recoveries
– Sedibeng: 290  cases and 65 recoveries
– West Rand: 852  cases and 288 recoveries
