Police warns motorist of spikes on R104

Motorists using the R104, on the old main road between Pretoria and Bronkhorstspruit, were warned to be careful at night.
This follows after Boschkop police were informed of thugs placing sharp objects on the road.
“We are monitoring the highway and working round the clock to arrest perpetrators,” said Boschkop police spokesperson Warrant Officer Cobus Ras.
The spikes were covered in black refuse bags and placed in the road to puncture vehicles’ tyres.
“As soon as you stop, you are robbed,” said Ras.
Ras urged motorists not to stop on the side of the road, especially near or under a bridge.
“Criminals use different tactics to stop motorists on the highway. As you drive over the object, criminals count on the fact that you will stop to investigate. Do not pull over immediately. Drive as far as you can to your nearest safe destination,” said Ras.
Ras said that no serious injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made.
Incidents can be reported by phoning Boschkop police at 012-802-8200.
In April, Rekord reported about similar incidents in the north and eastern parts of Pretoria, including the N4 between Pretoria towards Witbank, Donkerhoek towards the Diamond Hill Plaza and the old Bronkhorstspruit Road.
