Centurion home burned to the ground

“The homeowners ran back and forth into the burning house to try and save their belongings."

A house in Centurion was destroyed in a fire last night despite attempts by community members to put out the flames.

This happened on Sylvie Avenue in the Reeds around 22:30.

“I heard extremely loud noises and screams around 22:30. When I went outside the house was already engulfed in flames,” said neighbour Nicole Lubbe.

“The homeowners ran back and forth into the burning house to try and save their belongings, however, the moment emergency services arrived, they removed everyone from the house.”

Lubbe said she was not aware of the time the fire started or how long it has been going on before she went outside.

“The fire was already at full steam when we went outside. The roof was already collapsing and the fire was spreading to other rooms with windows bursting from the heat,” she said.

The fire department arrived and extinguished the flames. We stayed with everyone until midnight, Lubbe added.

She said the CPF and security groups assisted the family and also played a role to extinguish the fire.

Charles Mabaso from Tshwane Emergency Services said upon arrival the fire department found the house fully engulfed by the flames.

“They managed to extinguish the fire.”

He said the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage were unknown.

No injuries were reported.
