Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 39 841

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 39 841 with 10 534 recoveries and 180 deaths on Monday, according to a statement published by the Department of Health on Tuesday.

The department said out of 28 832 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 18 137 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The department said 2 376 people were currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.

– Johannesburg: 19 529 cases and 5 735 recoveries
– Ekurhuleni: 8 429 cases and 2 378 recoveries
– Tshwane: 6 184 cases and 1 606 recoveries
– Sedibeng: 1 500   cases and 135 recoveries
– West Rand: 2 536 cases and 680 recoveries
