‘Robber’ shot dead in west shootout

“When the suspects saw the police vehicle, they jumped into a Toyota Corolla and drove off and the response team gave chase.”

One suspect was shot dead and another arrested following a shootout in Atteridgeville on Monday evening.

Members of Gauteng’s tactical response team unit noticed three suspects allegedly robbing a shop in Nkomo Village around 18:00, said police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela.

“When the suspects saw the police vehicle, they jumped into a Toyota Corolla and drove off and the response team gave chase.”

It is alleged that the suspects started shooting at the police when they noticed they were being pursued. Police returned fire. One suspect was shot and the other suspect was arrested, the third managed to run away,” Makhubela said.

He said one suspect was certified dead at the scene.

“During the arrest, two unlicensed firearms were recovered and the suspects’ vehicle was impounded for further investigation.”
