More than 200 arrested in police operations

Road traffic penalties worth more than R100 000 also issued during operations.

More than 250 people were arrested on various charges, including murder, during police operations held in Pretoria between Thursday and Friday.

These arrests were made during intelligence-driven operations, roadblocks, raids and stop-and-searches, according to police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela.

“Most of the arrests were made in the north of Tshwane, where five men were caught for separate alleged rapes,” he said.

Four other men were arrested for on charges of murder, 12 for fraud, 60 for theft and 93 for assault.

“Additionally, 13 suspects were also brought to book for carjacking, robbery, burglary and pointing of a firearm,” he added.

Mavimbela said the remaining people were arrested for property-related crimes such as theft of motor vehicle and possession of suspected stolen property.

Meanwhile, roadblock and stop-and-search operations saw R120 000 worth of fines issued and 11 vehicles being impounded.

“The arrested suspects are expected to appear in various courts in Tshwane,” Mavimbela said.
