Manyisa leaves Sundowns
Manyisa's contract with the club officially ended on 30 June 2020.
Mamelodi Sundowns have parted ways with Oupa Manyisa, the club confirmed this week. The relationship between Sundowns and Manyisa came to an end after the club elected not to exercise its option for an extension of his contract.
The 31-year-old midfielder has spent three seasons at Sundowns, having joined in August 2017, from Orlando Pirates. In three years, Manyisa played close to 50 games for the Brazilians where he contributed to the club’s success and is one of the most decorated players in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) having won two of his league titles with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Manyisa’s contract with the club officially ended on 30 June 2020. Following his departure, the midfielder took time to thank his former team and fans on social media.

“My time with the Masandawana family has come to an end. Three years filled with amazing memories, two league titles, a Telkom Knockout Cup and most importantly I got to make friends that will be forever.”
“Thank you to the chairman Dr (Patrice) Motsepe, coach Pitso and all the support staff for believing in me and giving me an opportunity of a lifetime. To all the supporters thank you for taking me in as your own and for all the love. Lastly, thank you to my teammates and brothers. I will miss you guys. For one last time Ka Bo Yellow,” Manyisa said.
Coach Pitso Mosimane was sentimental when he spoke of Manyisa’s departure.
“Oupa has been a pleasure to work with. Despite his near iconic status, he gave 100% in training and managed his social life well,” he said.
Since his injury in October last year, Manyisa has made a full recovery and is back to full fitness and ready for a new chapter in his career.
“It’s a pity that he didn’t play much this year and his Achilles [heel] only healed just a month before the lockdown break and he had played in a few friendlies. He is an exceptional player that can play in any position and will be an asset to any team.”
