Metro cops recover stolen vehicle after brief chase
One of those arrested was currently out on bail after being arrested on similar charges three weeks ago at the Wierdabrug police station.
Two people were arrested when the Tshwane metro police’s K9-unit recovered a stolen motor vehicle in the Centurion area on Tuesday, 13 October.
This comes after TMPD officers spotted a white Ford Figo driving behind a Toyota Etios along Eeufees Road, according to spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba. “With the knowledge that a white Figo was involved in stealing vehicles in the Brooklyn area, they became suspicious,” Mahamba said.
The Figo was found to be belonging to a business, while the Etios belonged to an elderly person in Montana, Pretoria.

Mahamba said the driver of the Etios sped away as the officers approached the car.
“The members managed to keep up and pulled it over on Roger Dayson Road,” he said. The door lock, ignition and dashboard of the vehicle had been “badly damaged”, he said. “The occupants were then arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle,” Mahamba said.
The officers phoned a number found on a receipt in the vehicle. “It was a family member of the owner of the vehicle,” Mahamba said. The relative was then asked to contact the owner of the vehicle to find out if they knew where the vehicle was.
“It turned out that the owner did not know that the vehicle had been stolen and the owner was asked to open a case at the Brooklyn SAPS as the vehicle was stolen in Hatfield.”
Mahamba said the car was taken to the police pound after fingerprints were taken. “Video footage later showed that the Figo was used to commit crimes. It was also discovered that one of the suspects was arrested three weeks ago, at the Wierdabrug police station on the same charges,” Mahamba said, adding the suspects was out on bail.

“The owner of the vehicle phoned to express his gratitude to the officers for recovering his vehicle as it was not fitted with a tracking device.” The vehicle had been packed with valuables as the owner was on his way to Cape Town. Mahamba commended the members of the K9-unit “for a job well done”.
