Over 200 arrests as part of inner-city police operation
"We identify problematic areas, then every Thursday we have the operations there."
Pretoria police managed to secure over 200 arrests in the Pretoria CBD on Thursday morning as part of the multi-disciplinary police operation Okae Molao.
The operation began on Wednesday evening and resulted in a total of 247 arrests by Pretoria detectives, according to district police commission major-general Hilda Mohajane.
“Arrests were made for cases relating to murder, rape, robbery and assault,” Mohajane said.

“Out of all the cases, 33 people were arrested for gender-based violence (GBV), a priority for police.
“We want to make sure we prioritise this crime during our operations.”
She said several roadblocks were held on Thursday morning to enforce disaster management act regulations.
“The main focus of these roadblocks was to enforce compliance with the regulations, vehicle roadworthiness, appropriate registrations and the issuing of fines by metro police.”

She said several foreign nationals who could not provide proper documentation were also arrested by police.
Mahajana said operation Okae Molao has highlighted the seriousness of crime in Pretoria.
“We identify problematic areas, then every Thursday we have the operations there,” she said.
“We were in Marabastad this time around where police have noted several aggravating robberies.
“Our visibility and our presence impact on crime. Even commuters are happy to see us.”
