Informal traders attend food workshop

‘The objective for this workshop was to teach new skills and give an educational experience to our informal traders.’

Informal traders from Mamelodi recently had the chance to learn some new cooking skills by attending a one-day food workshop organized by Tshwane Regional Mall.

The food workshop was attended by two professional chefs who shared their skills with the informal traders.

Corporate marketing and communications Silindile Longwe said the mall’s aim is all about interconnection of people, the mall and the transport node.

“Our wish for them is to grow further in this industry, we therefore made this workshop event possible,” said Longwe.

The mall is a transport hub which has accommodated a fully operational taxi rank and informal traders.

“The informal traders are part of our brand, and they are important to us.

“We wanted to enhance their knowledge of method and technique and we wanted to teach new material that they will later implement in their space,” said Longwe.

The mall is planning to integrate upgraded facilities for some informal traders and taxi facilities.

Longwe said the shared methods and ideas may be beneficial for the informal traders for their business to grow.

“The workshop was a great success. This workshop introduced a new concept spurring the participants to investigate further on their own.”

Tshwane regional mall is preparing for the relaunch set to take place on 29 October and certain activities will be taking place on the day.

“One of the most important activities we will be having is a competition between informal traders in the cooking field,” said Longwe.

She said that the relaunch of the mall will have other competitions such as a Graffiti competition, kids entertainment and live bands.
