Heroin found at Mamelodi hostels

Police arrested a suspect for possession of heroin during a raid at Mamelodi hostels in the early hours of Friday.

Police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso said the suspect was arrested during the continuous operation called O kae Molao around Tshwane district.

“The arrested suspect at the hostel is an alleged drug dealer and was found in possession of 50 packets of heroin with a street value of R1 500 and R9 438 cash,” said Maheso.

“Operation O kae Molao is still calling the shots even during the festive seasons. The police, Tshwane metro and national intervention unit will form part of the operation,” he said.

Maheso said 294 people were arrested around the Tshwane district as part of the operation at the weekend.

Of the suspects arrested, 11 were for possession of drugs, two for dealing in drugs, 188 people were searched, 18 people were issued Aarto contravention tickets to the value of R18 000.

He said four people were arrested in Mamelodi for selling liquor without a licence and liquor was confiscated.

“It is worth mentioning that 259 of the total arrests were made by the detectives in the district for various crimes, including 31 for gender-based violence.”

District commissioner Major-General Hilda Mohajane applauded the police for their dedication and discipline towards their work.

“The police will continue with operation O kae Molao and make themselves available for future operations until Tshwane district, including Mamelodi are crime-free zones.”

The arrested suspects were expected to appear in the Mamelodi magistrate’s court soon.

Maheso encouraged the public to work with the police and report any suspicious looking person by dialling 08600-10111.
