Overall sidewalk winner for 2020 announced
It came as a huge surprise, but we are honoured to be recognized for our hard work, said Espach.
Theo Espach and his gardener, Given Mogohari, were named the overall winners of the unique neat sidewalk competition in the Moot for 2020.
The announcement was made on Espach’s front porch in Van Heerden Street in Capital Park on Wednesday morning.
Talking Pots sponsored the prize and this year two pots were handed over to the winner.
Mogohari has been working for Espach since 2011 and has been living in this very same home for 30 years.
Espach said that they did not expect to walk out as the overall winners.

“It came as a huge surprise, but we are honoured to be recognised for our hard work,” said Espach.
His worker has been part of the family for eight years.
“As long as Given works with me, we will most definitely want to be part of the competition again.
“My sidewalk should be an example to the rest of the residents.”
One of the proportional representatives of the DA in Capital Park, Wayne Helfrich was named as the judge for this year’s competition.
Helfrich said that it is a initiative in order to keep the area clean and neat.
“I got into my car and drove around to have a look at the various winners over the past year.
“The house in Van Heerden Street gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling,” he said.
“We want to make Capital Park an ark village.
“The drive is contagious and if we continue to present competitions like this, we are going to build a greater Capital Park and make it a place where people want to live again. It is an honour to be a resident of Capital Park,” said Helfrich.

Chairperson of the environmental management review committee, Marika Kruger Muller was also present during the announcement.
“Except for the beautiful garden, it is uplifting to the community when they see how neat another person’s garden look.
“It is all about the broken window philosophy – if one person’s garden is neat, of course you’re also going to try to renovate your garden,” she said.
The initiative, the brainchild of Capital Park Residents and Ratepayers Association (Caprra), is aimed at motivating residents to maintain their neighbourhood.
The competition was launched three years ago and the trophy was awarded to the first winner by former mayor, Solly Msimanga.
Real One Real Estate joined the competition shortly after it started.
Donne-Li Johnson of the estate agency hands over the trophy to the winners each month.
“The floating trophy will soon get a new facelift before the competition will commence in January next year,” Johnson.
