Licensing departments’ operational hours extended

Selected licensing departments, operational hours have been extended to accommodate residents during the festive season, as well as to address the backlog caused by the lockdown.

Akasia, Centurion, Waltloo and Bronkhorstspruit licensing departments’ operating hours will be extended as from Saturday, 5 December.

This was in accordance with the Tshwane metro’s roads and transport department’s decision, said metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.

“This arrangement is meant to ensure that residents are assisted during the festive period, but also to clear the backlog brought about by the hard lockdown regulations,” he said.

He said services that would be rendered are the renewal of driving licence cards, applications and tests for learner licences, and the registration and licensing of motor vehicles.

He said residents must take note that all driving licence card renewals, as well as applications for temporary driving licences, were subject to submission of a valid optometrist’s certificate, at all four of the departments, and all applications and testing for learner licences must be done via the online booking system.

Appointments for driving licence card renewals need to be scheduled, but no appointments are needed for temporary driving licences.

“For licensing and registration of motor vehicles at public walk-in facilities, the offices of Akasia, Centurion, Waltloo and Bronkhorstspruit will be open from 08:00 to 15:00 on weekdays, and on Saturdays, from 08:00 to 13:00,” the metro said in a statement.

“For renewals of driving licence cards, application for temporary driving licences, and application and testing for learner licences, the operating hours at the departments are as follows: at Akasia and Centurion office hours are on weekdays from 08:00 to 15:00, and on Saturdays and Sundays, from 06:00 to 14:00.

“At Waltloo and Bronkhorstspruit office hours on weekdays are from 08:00 to 18:00, and on Saturdays from 08:00 to 13:00.”
