Wonderboompoort police mourn death of ‘hero’
Police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane said that another hero was selfishly taken away.
The Wonderboom police station this week mourns the loss of their commander Lieutenant-Colonel Matume Mabale (56), who died on Sunday afternoon.
Mabale was appointed as station commander at the end of 2018.
“A selfless servant of the people was taken away,” said police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane.
“It is with great sadness that we learnt of Mabale’s death. He did not only serve the community, but he was a dear friend to many.”
Residents took to social media to express their condolences to his family and colleagues.
His cause of death was unknown.
Pretoria Moot CPF chairperson Elsabe Weyers, who worked closely with Mabale, said that they will keep the family in their prayers.
“Rest in peace. Time was not our friend. Fly high and enjoy your well deserved eternal rest. We salute you,” she said.
Mabale is survived by his wife and children.
District commander Major General Hilda Mohajane said she was saddened by the passing of colleagues who had served the police for so many years.
“Their passing is a huge loss and will leave a large void.
“ I want to urge the men and women in blue at the police station to continue working, hand-in-hand with their communities in making sure that their policing precinct continues to be a peaceful and crime-free area,” she said.
