Six busted trying to deposit R3-m in fake notes at bank

"The suspects went to a bank in the Ga-Rankuwa shopping complex where they tried to deposit the counterfeit notes."

Police arrested six men when they tried to deposit counterfeit banknotes, valued at over R3-million, at a bank in the Ga-Rankuwa shopping complex on Thursday.

“A bank official grew suspicious and alerted the police, who swiftly responded,” said police spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi.

Nkoadi said the suspects, aged between 29 and 43, were taken to the police station and detained.

A case of counterfeit prevention was opened for further investigation.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Ga-Rankuwa magistrate’s court soon.
