Community forum march to affect city streets

“From the Loftus Triangle, the marchers will join Eastwood Street and turn left into Pretorius Street then right to Leyds Street and proceed straight until they reach the Union Buildings.

A march by the Thusa Sechaba Forum from Hammanskraal was expected to affect several streets in the Tshwane city centre on Wednesday morning.

Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the purpose for the protest was for upgrades to the township, proclamation and establishment.

“From the Loftus Triangle, the marchers will join Eastwood Street and turn left into Pretorius Street then right to Leyds Street and proceed straight until they reach the Union Buildings.

Intersections which were expected to be affected included Faranden, Beckett, Johan and Wessels Streets. Mahamba advised motorists to use alternative routes such as Park, Robert Sobukwe, Hamilton and Rossik Streets.

TMPD officers were expected to be deployed to monitor the march and subsequently affected streets.

“The marchers are expected to disperse from the Union Buildings at 13:00.”
