East sub-station repairs completed, power restored

Last week Saturday, a fire broke out at the Wapadrand sub-station, leaving many parts of the east without power for a week.

Electricity to parts of Pretoria east was switched back on by Saturday, following a week without power.

Last week Saturday, a fire broke out at the Wapadrand sub-station, leaving many parts of the east without power for a week.

On Saturday, Tshwane MMC responsible for energy and electricity, water and sanitation, and regional operations and co-ordination Phillip Nel said the work at the substation was completed.

“Following a rather long testing period, power was restored in phases to all secondary sub-stations and suburbs, from 02:00 to about 04:30 this morning,” he said.

“We are aware of small pockets that don’t have power yet. Residents are encouraged to report these faults to the municipality and also to keep their ward councillors informed.

“I wish to thank all the officials and contractors for the extra mile yesterday, as they had to overcome many technical challenges,” Nel said.

On Sunday morning, ward councillor Jacqui Uys said all areas were “up and running” except for a few complexes in Faerie Glen and Wapadrand.

“The technicians are working on that and they should also be connected soon,” she said.
