UPDATE: Streets closed due to EFF march in Queenswood

“Participants will gather in the veld in Soutpansberg Road, from where they will move towards Stead Avenue, go down Stead Avenue towards Webb Street, turn into Webb Street and gather in front of Huis Herfsblaar where a memorandum will be handed over,” he concluded.

Pretoria motorists have been warned to avoid Webb Street this morning because of a planned march by the EFF.

This comes as the party is set to start their “racism march” – according to the party’s poster announcing the protest action – from Queens Corner to Huis Herfsblaar in Webb Street on Wednesday morning.

The march is expected to start around 10:00 and end around 13:00.

According to councillor Roelof Fourie, SAPS, supported by the Tshwane metro police department, are fully prepared for the march.

“Much has already been said about the EFF march happening in Queenswood.

“Villieria police coordinated discussions with all role players – CPF, security companies, schools and others.

“I honestly think all role players and stakeholders must be congratulated for their contributions in this regard,” he said.

Fourie added that contact, confrontation and friction must please be avoided as far as possible.

“I echo the urgent request for allowing them to do their jobs.

“Participants will gather in the veld in Soutpansberg Road, from where they will move towards Stead Avenue, go down Stead Avenue towards Webb Street, turn into Webb Street and gather in front of Huis Herfsblaar where a memorandum will be handed over,” he concluded.

Some primary schools such as Queenswood and Nellie Swart, Eduplex and Loreto will be closed after they were advised by the police to do so.

The following streets will be closed from 10:00 until the protest is done:

– Soutpansberg Road- Stead Avenue- CR Swart Drive- Webb Street- Lynette Street.

According to Reinhard Rascke of Citi Protection, road users must avoid Webb Street “at all costs”.
