Tension as EFF marches to Moot old age home
The EFF threatened to intensify the "struggle" that if management failed to respond after seven days.

About 100 EFF members marched to hand over a memorandum to the management of Huis Herfsblaar in the Moot on Wednesday.
The EFF labour desk said it was “representing vulnerable workers, noting the on-going unfair labour practices and racial discrimination Huis Herfsblaar employees were subjected to”.
EFF representative Philip Makwana handed over the memorandum on behalf of the party to the facility’s management.
The EFF said that if the management did not respond after seven days, the party “will be left with no choice but to intensify the struggle”.
“We had to leave our family responsibilities, because it has become clear to us that we need to constantly remind you of your legal and constitutional obligations.
“We are here because we are frustrated by the persistent failure of the employer to attend to pressing matters on racial discrimination and unfair labour practices subjected to workers and wage increment,” the memorandum read
.
About 100 EFF members gathered in Soutpansberg Road from where they marched to Webb Road where Huis Herfblaas is situated.
The party said in the memorandum: “Unfair discrimination happens when you are treated less favourable than others because of personal attributes rather than the actual ability to do the job.
“We demand an immediate termination of contract of the security company that used unnecessary force on employees for exercising their rights. “The old age home has made it a culture to undermining black people.
We demand an open engagement with the employer on behalf of the employees on the basis of an alleged interdict against the trade unions (sic).
“We are of the view that any failure by Huis Herfsblaar to address above listed issues, would have a negative effect on the march desired delivery of quality business in the old age (sic).”
There was high police visibility as well as various security companies and residents’ representatives present at the march.
A clash almost ensued when the marchers threatened to force their way through a police line, members of the community, as well as members of the Bittereinders and AfriForum organisations.
Despite this, the marchers dispersed around 15:00. Huis Herfsblaar management had yet to comment at the time of going to print.
