Importance of nature and the environment highlighted
“Let’s keep planting change. Let’s strive to conserve, protect and restore nature. Our lives, health, well-being, peace and progress depend on it.”

World Nature Conservation Day is observed on July 28 every year, and marks the importance of nature and the environment.
Dana Wannenburg, Tshwane MMC for environment and agriculture management said special awareness campaigns were organised worldwide to acknowledge that a healthy environment was a foundation for a stable and healthy human society.
“The objective behind observing World Nature Conservation Day is to introspect as a species on how humans are exploiting nature.
“The rise in global temperature is causing an imbalance between nature and humans. It gives rise to various diseases and causes natural disasters.”
Wannenburg said World Nature Conservation Day recognised that a healthy environment was important for a stable and productive society.
“This year on #WorldNatureConservationDay let us pledge to conserve forests. They are the foundation of sustaining people and planet.

“Let’s keep planting change. Let’s strive to conserve, protect and restore nature. Our lives, health, well-being, peace and progress depend on it.”
Wannenburg and DA councillor Marika Kruger planted trees on Wednesday in ward 70 to raise awareness.
