Cable theft leaves 24 000 households in the north without power
"Due to the complex nature of the damage caused by the cable theft, Eskom is unable to determine how long it will take to restore power."
Eskom said technicians were working around the clock to restore electricity to Winterveld and some parts of Mabopane following a supply interruption caused by cable theft at Eskom’s Hangklip substation.
This incident has left more than 24 000 households without power since yesterday.
In a statement on Friday, Eskom said their technicians have been on-site working on repairs since Thursday morning.
“Due to the complex nature of the damage caused by the cable theft, Eskom is unable to determine how long it will take to finish repairs and restore power to the affected areas.”
Mashangu Xivambu, senior operations and maintenance manager in Gauteng, said Eskom has notified the affected customers about the cause of the outage and will continue to provide regular updates through various communication channels.
“We urge our customers in the affected areas to be patient as we work on restoring their electricity supply,” said Xivambu.
Eskom appealed to the public to help them in reducing electricity-related criminal activities by reporting illegal connections, theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure to the Eskom crime line on 0800 112 722.
