Several shacks at the Plastic View informal settlement in Pretoria east were destroyed by a fire on Saturday morning, leaving one dead and three injured.
Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the fire was reported at around 03:00.
“Numerous shacks burned down; however, an assessment is still underway.”
He said the three people were transported to Mamelodi Hospital with moderate injuries. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Charity organisation SA Cares for Life Managing director Sanet Fagan said one death was reported.
According to Fagan, the fire started because of a candle that was left unattended.

“The community reacted very positively and started breaking down shacks around the fire, to stop the fire from spreading further.”
