Armed robbers targeting those working from home

"If you are working from home, always ensure you have the police and security officers’ numbers on speed dial."

Despite many of the people having the luxury to work from home due to the pandemic, house robberies are still a problem in parts of Centurion.

There has been a number of armed robberies reported in the past few months where residents were robbed in their homes in broad daylight, said Monitor Net spokesperson JP Le Roux.

“Armed robberies have picked up in the past few weeks. We’ve attended several incidents where motorists have been robbed either in their homes or driveway.

“We are again pleading with the community to be careful and vigilant; if you are working from home, always ensure you have the police and security officers’ numbers on speed dial,” Le Roux said.

He pleaded with the community to ensure that their security features at home were working.

“Do not just open for anyone. If you see someone suspicious, hear a sound outside or knock from the door, immediately alert your neighbours and security groups, don’t confront them,” Le Roux said.

Wierdabrug police spokesperson Sergeant Divine Nkuna said police have been patrolling areas regularly since the unrest which broke out in parts of the country last month.

“Armed robberies and hijacking have actually decreased since the deployment of police. Although cases are being reported still, they are very few,” she said.

She urged residents to be aware of their surroundings all the time and if they notice any suspicious behaviour, to contact their nearest police station.
