Pta North community warms hearts

The ‘Free on a Tree’ movement was held on Saturday, wherein locals and business owners in Pretoria North donated clothes to the poor.

An initiative by Pretoria North residents and businesses warmed the hearts and bodies of many poor community members.

Known as the “Free on a Tree” movement was held on Saturday, July 31, which saw hundreds of jackets, warm clothes and blankets left out on trees and fences for people in need to take.

Notes that came with it read:

“Take this jacket if you need it please!”

“Here’s something warm, just for you to get you through the winter.”

One of the residents, part of the initiative, Rene de Witt said several individuals and local businesses were involved.

“It was all about giving back to those who need it most in our community,” said De Witt.

She said the clothes were distributed at four points throughout Pretoria North.

A soup kitchen was also set up at one of the clothes distribution points, where community members in need could also get a farm meal.

“It was a great success and wonderful to see people opening their hearts to others. Thank you to everyone that was involved.”
