Police arrest eight wanted suspects
Eight wanted suspects apprehended during police operations in Mamelodi.
Mamelodi West police detectives arrested eight wanted suspects in an overnight operation, which began on Monday evening and ended on Tuesday morning.
“The suspects, between the ages of 18 and 45, were arrested on charges including robbery, theft, assault and malicious damage to property,” Mamelodi West police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso told Rekord.
He said the arrests were a major breakthrough as the suspects were on the wanted list for quite some time.
Maheso praised the police detective unit for a job well-done.
“Our detective unit has done sterling work of ensuring that justice is served.”
He said a high number of suspects who were on the run prompted the police detectives to go an extra mile in order for the suspects to be brought to book.
The suspects were arrested for crimes only committed in Mamelodi West policing precinct, Maheso said, adding that the arrests showed that police were hard at work and warned that the days of those wanted suspects who were still roaming around the streets were numbered.
“Suspects who are not yet arrested should not think that they are free, they will eventually be arrested and face the rule of law.”
Maheso requested members of the community to work with the police to ensure that wanted suspects were arrested.
“I urge members of the community to work together with the police by providing important information that will help in apprehending wanted suspects.”
Maheso said the police detective unit would continue to conduct special operations in order to arrest wanted suspects.
The suspects were due to appear in the Mamelodi magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
