United and Downs unveil new soccer kits

The kit would feature the latest PUMA tech as seen on the recently launched Manchester City and AC Milan kits.

Puma has unveiled the new Mamelodi Sundowns home and away players’ kits this week.

Each shirt is featuring a unique traditional hand-printed treatment inspired by African art and fashion, the club said on their website.

“Sundowns are known as Bafana Ba style, as they always lead the way in pushing both the football and style culture,” said Brett Bellinger, marketing director of Puma South Africa.

“We believe the striking new kit will ensure Masandawana remain the envy of many fans and provide a strong statement about the club’s African roots, aspirations and achievements across both South Africa and the continent.”

Bellinger said the kit would feature the latest PUMA tech as seen on the recently launched Manchester City and AC Milan kits.

Mamelodi Sundowns spokesperson Alex Shakoane said the club was excited about the new kit.

“This unique football jersey pays homage to the natural greatness that is found across the African continent. Looking at the individual elements on the design, they depict the rivers, deserts and mountain ranges found from the north right through to the south.”

The kit was launched during the fifth anniversary of Mamelodi Sundowns’ CAF Champions League victory.

“The kit represents the club’s ambitions to become the best football club on the continent and share our African artistry with the world,” he said.

“Our supporters can expect to wear a trendy jersey that stands out among the crowd and is a proud statement of African excellence.”

Mamelodi Sundowns will kick off the 2020/21 season against Kaizer Chiefs this coming Sunday.

– Another Pretoria-based club SuperSport United have also launched their new home and away Umbro kit for the 2021-2022 DStv Premiership season.

The kit, with a good look and feel, is quite different to editions by technical sponsor Umbro for Matsatsantsa in the past seasons. Matsatsantsa will still put on their traditional royal blue home colours.

United open their season this week against Golden Arrows in the MTN8.
