All eyes on Sundowns and Chiefs this weekend

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter this week said that the pressure was on Mamelodi Sundowns.

All eyes will be at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville as Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs do battle this weekend.

The two giants will face off in the MTN 8 on Sunday afternoon.

Defending DStv champions Sundowns will be looking to get off to a winning start, while Chiefs are aiming to continue with their momentum which saw them finish into the top 8 and eventual finalists of the CAF Champions League.

Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter this week said that the pressure was on Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Brazilians have been dominant in the PSL, winning the league, Telkom Knockout and Nedbank on several occasions, however, they have never won the MTN 8 since its inception.

“The pressure is firmly on Sundowns because of the way they run the club. Paris Saint Germain have Lionel Messi and the only thing that will satisfy them is the Champions League,” Baxter said.

“When you sign as many players as Sundowns has signed, you increase that pressure and the bar is set higher. They will have the favourites tag and it’s going to take the rest of us to chase them down and knock them off their perch and bring greater competition to the league. They’ve been good enough to make that competition pretty sparse,” he said.

Supersport United are also in action against Golden Arrows on Saturday.
