Tshwane metro sees increase in vaccinations
More than half a million people have been vaccinated thus far, says metro.
The introduction of weekend vaccinations has seen an “exponential” increase in the number of people being vaccinated at Tshwane metro-run sites, according to a municipal spokesperson.
Its weekend vaccination programme began on Saturday, July 31.
“In the 11 days between July 30 and August 9, 58 064 people got their Covid-19 vaccine jabs,” said metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba.
Of these, 27 636 have been fully vaccinated, either through the Johnson & Johnson single dose or two doses of Pfizer.
This brought the total number of individuals who are fully vaccinated in Tshwane to 241 106.
The number of vaccines administered in Tshwane stands at 536 376.
Bokaba said people in the 60 years and older group were the most vaccinated with 164 660 individuals, 68% of them having been fully vaccinated.
The number of people vaccinated in the 50-59 age group is at 98 773, with just over 35 000 of them being fully vaccinated.
The number of people in the 40-49 age group has increased significantly, with 24 453 of them getting their jabs in 11 days.
In the same period, people in the 30-39 age group recorded an increase of 13 580 vaccinated.
The second-lowest age group with a fewer number of vaccinated individuals is the 20-29 years age ground, with 14 422.
“However, they have the highest number of individuals fully vaccinated as per the vaccines administered with 88% of them being fully inoculated.”
The vaccination for the 18-34 years group would begin September 1.
He urged all eligible age groups to register on the electronic vaccination data system by using the following link: https://vaccine.enroll.health.gov/za/#/
They can visit any of the identified eight vaccination fixed sites that offer vaccines on Saturdays and Sundays, from 08:00 to 15:00.
